Lynx Newsletter # 10 (February 7, 2002)

Tags . . .

There are dozens of different types of reports in the system. Couple this with the various filters available and you end up with literally thousands of permutations and combinations of data for your reports.

However, there are still ways you may want to categorize or identify you accounts and tanks that are unique to you. Tags give you the means to do this.

Account tags . . . There are six different tags that you can set up per account. You can use them to identify your accounts in any way that makes sense to you. For instance, you may want to identify your "senior citizens" or "Christmas card list".

Using account tags is a three step process. First, go to Company Preferences and identify the tags(s) you want to set up by giving each of them a label. Second, go to each of the accounts to which these tags apply and enter some code (like "Yes") that you want to use to identify each. Be consistent from account to account with the code you use. The third step is to select the report you want to use and then filter it based on the tags you've set up.

See "Set Up Customer Tags" in the Lynx Help System for assistance on this.

Tank tags . . . You can have two different tags per tank. An example of how these might be used is to identify "no lid" tanks. For instance, the delivery driver notes any tanks with missing lids, writes it on the ticket and the corresponding tank tag is then entered into the system. You now can get a list of tanks needing lids whenever it's appropriate. Tag tags are simpler to set up than tags for customers and can be done two different ways. Either "Find a Tank" and enter the tag you want to use for the tank . . . or go to the account, then to the tank and left-click the change button to enter the tank tag.
